What’s New for the 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman?
Since 2005, German automaker Porsche has manufactured the 718 Cayman as the two-door two-seater fastback coupe version of the Boxster. The “718” version represents the car’s fourth generation of production, which kicked off in 2016. The 2018 model year has no major changes, with trims split into a base model and the S. The 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman is powered by a mid-placed 2.0-liter turbocharged flat 4-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The regular transmission is a 6-speed manual gearbox, although the S goes with a 7-speed dual-clutch (PDK) transmission instead. Depending on powertrain configuration—and thanks to a rear mid-engine rear-wheel-drive layout—the 718 Cayman peaks at a 0-60 mph speed of 4.7 seconds, as well as a fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
Seating two people, the 718 Cayman provides 9.7 cubic feet of standard cargo volume. Partial leather upholstery is standard, with the opportunity to upgrade to full leather trim—along with heated and ventilated seats, enhanced sport seats, and 14- or 18-way power-adjustable seats. Standard comfort and convenience features include automatic climate control, a 4.6-inch digital instrument cluster display, and the Porsche Communication Management interface, which includes 150-watt eight-speaker audio, a 7-inch touchscreen, two USB ports, SiriusXM® satellite radio, mobile phone preparation, HD Radio™, and Bluetooth® wireless technology. Safety features include a rearview camera with front and rear parking sensors, eight airbags, and Porsche Stability Management, which includes anti-lock braking with the all-wheel disc brakes, traction control, and stability control.
