Serving Farmington Hills, MI

The Porsche Panamera is a full-size luxury supercar model that has been in production by the German automaker, Porsche, since the 2010 model year. Other notable full-size luxury supercars include the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7-Series. The S and GTS tags on the two models in the discussion represent a different Panamera trim level. There are roughly nine different trim levels on the 2019 Porsche Panamera, but for this discussion, we will focus on the Panamera S and Panamera GTS. The 2019 Porsche Panamera S is the base level Panamera, and the 2019 Panamera GTS is touted near (but not quite at) the top of the trim hierarchy. So what are the significant differences between these two trim levels?

Performance

There are significant changes to the Panamera’s powertrain as you rise up the trim totem pole. The 2019 Panamera S comes with a 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 engine that makes up to 440 horsepower. This engine is just as lively as any other engine option you’ll find in the luxury car class. The 2019 Panamera GTS gets a slight upgrade to a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine that can produce up to 453 horsepower. The V6 is slightly more fuel-efficient, with averages around 18 city and 26 highway miles per gallon, versus the V8 engine, which averages 16 city and 23 highway miles per gallon. Both figures are impressive when you factor in the massive, performance-driven engines that the Panamera uses.

Appearance

The second-generation Panamera, which began with the 2017 model year, came with an all-new design that excluded the hatchback-style rear end of its predecessor. The new generation’s rear end now resembles (almost entirely) the back end most commonly seen on the Porsche 911. There aren’t any glaring differences to the exterior between the S and GTS trims. However, the GTS trim is a couple of hundred pounds more massive than the S trim, which is likely due to the larger engine. The interior of the Panamera is also mostly untouched between the trim levels, aside from the standard lumbar support that comes with the 2019 Panamera GTS.

Features

The Panamera S and GTS trims only differ slightly in their standard and available features. A heated steering wheel and driver’s seat lumbar support are the only features that are standard on the Panamera GTS, but only optional on the Panamera S.

A model’s safety features are easily essential features for any car model. Thankfully, the Porsche Panamera has a decent list of advanced safety technology that includes features like a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, a heads-up display, lane change assist, and the unique night vision system, which uses thermal imaging to detect pedestrians and animals on poorly-lit roads. All of these features are available the 2019 Panamera S, and Panamera GTS trim levels.
